About our farm ~
Welcome to Stone Corner Farm, a small, diversified farm in the foothills of Western Maine.
While there have been farms at our location on the Industry Road for generations, Stone Corner Farm doesn’t go back quite that far. Mary and Joe Rankin bought 40 acres and a dilapidated house in 1993, later adding another 37 acres of woodland. We started rehabbing the house immediately, and within a few months began planting the first of over 100 fruit trees, as well as digging the first garden.
Our farm is pretty much like small farms have always been. We grow and raise a variety of fruits: heritage apples, pears, sour cherries, plums, raspberries, blueberries, and grapes; have a big vegetable and herb garden; raise hops for making beer; keep a flock of ducks for their delicious eggs; and raise pastured turkeys and chickens. We use what we need and sell the extra.
Our biggest product, other than fruit, is honey. We have some 70 bee hives at our property and in other “bee yards” in the area, which in a good year will produce several hundred pounds of delicious honey, our primary farm product.
We also sell fruits, vegetables, herbs, jams and jellies, fruit and herbal vinegars, duck eggs, and honey and other hive products, such beeswax hand cream and foot cream and lip balm. We hope to expand our line of products over the next couple of years.
We sell our products at the farm year round. Just stop by and see what we have to offer. One of us is there most days.
We also sell at the Farmington Farmers’ Market on Saturdays in the state office building parking lot downtown, at the Belgrade Lakes Farmers' Market on Sundays during the summer and through the Western Maine Market, an innovative online farmers’ market. We also accept Paypal payments and will ship certain items directly to you.
Our philosophy, in farming as in life, emphasizes wholesome living, self-reliance, lessening our impact on the environment, and helping create a new food economy connecting farmers and customers.
Drop by the farm to say hello. We have honey, handcream, jams and jellies available year round at the farm!
